Gdy poszedłem pierwszy raz do niego do domu, już w czasie epoki gierkowskiej, okazało się, że mieszkał bardzo skromnie przy ulicy Partyzantów w Warszawie. Tam zajmował z babcią dwupokojowe M3. Nie miał swojego samochodu, chociaż miał różne kontakty i pracował w ministerstwie oświaty.
