Oscar Devereaux Micheaux (US: / m ɪ ˈ ʃ oʊ / ⓘ; (January 2, 1884 – March 25, 1951) was an American author, film director and independent producer of more than 44 films.
Oscar Micheaux (1884-1951) was the first African-American to produce a feature-length film and a sound feature-length film. He used his films to challenge racism, promote assimilation and raise the consciousness of African-Americans in an era of segregation and legal discrimination.
