Unlocked — MICHAEL HAERTLEIN. As the director of photography on this series, I worked very hard to subvert the visual expectations of inmates and the jail environment. I took unprecedented steps within the confines of a documentary series to exert control over the design and lighting of the jail pod in which we were shooting.

Filmmakers Michael Haertlein and Jonathan Yi have few directing credits on IMBD but both are accomplished camera men. The cinematography in this doc at times seems amateur although it may be a punk aesthetic they are trying to achieve.
