Götz George (German pronunciation: [ɡœts geˈɔɐ̯ gə] ⓘ; 23 July 1938 – 19 June 2016) was a German actor, the son of actor couple Berta Drews and Heinrich George. His arguably best-known role is that of Duisburg detective Horst Schimanski in the TV crime series Tatort.
Götz George, born in Berlin in 1938, is the son of the famous actor Heinrich George and his wife, the actress Berta Drews. After first appearances on the stage of Berlin's Hebbel Theater during his childhood, Götz George was trained as an actor by the recognized teacher Else Bongers.
Horst Schimanski is a homicide detective with a leading role in the German crime television series Tatort, as well as the spin-off Schimanski. [1] Portrayed by Götz George, the character made his debut in the 1981 episode "Duisburg-Ruhrort" [ de] and appeared in 29 episodes until 1991. [2]
