Suchitra Sen (Bengali pronunciation: [ʃuːtʃiːraː ʃeːn] listen ⓘ; born Roma Dasgupta (listen ⓘ; 6 April 1931 – 17 January 2014), widely known as the Mahanayika (lit. ' Great actress '), was an Indian actress who worked in Bengali and Hindi cinema.
Suchitra Sen was a veteran Indian actress, who worked in Hindi and Bengali films. She became the first Indian actress to win the Moscow International Film Festival award for the movie Saat Pakey Bandha IN 1963.
Suchitra Sen was born on 6 April 1931 in Pabna, Bengal Presidency, British India [now in Pabna, Bangladesh]. She was an actress, known for Aandhi (1975), Saptapadi (1961) and Devdas (1955). She was married to Dibanath Sen. She died on 17 January 2014 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
