B. Fry is standing at the rear, first on the left. A brilliant track and field athlete, C.B. equalled the world long jump record with a jump of 23’ 6½” (7.17m) in 1893. With little formal training in the discipline itself, it is said that he prepared for the event by smoking a cigar.
C.B. Fry was a brilliant scholar, athlete, and politician who played cricket for England and captained the team in Test Matches. He scored over 30,000 runs, averaging 50, and was a master of the straight drive and the cut shot.
