Charles William Alcock (2 December 1842 – 26 February 1907) [1] was an English sportsman, administrator, author and editor. He was a major instigator in the development of both international football and cricket, as well as being the creator of the FA Cup .

The CfA will host a celebration for Alcock, recognizing his contributions as director, in 2022. On Friday, Dec. 10, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) Advisory Board presented Charles Alcock with a surprise endowment established in his honor.

He is widely considered to be the founding spirit of the FA Cup competition and international football, and as a club player he transformed the Forest Club into Wanderers FC and captained them to victory in the first FA Cup Final in 1872. He held the position of Vice President of the FA from 1896-1907.
