Francis Joseph Aloysius Selke (/ ˈ s ɛ l k i /; May 7, 1893 – July 3, 1985) was a Canadian professional ice hockey executive in the National Hockey League. He was a nine-time Stanley Cup champion with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens and a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee.
Named after Frank J. Selke, former general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens, the trophy has been awarded 45 times to 27 different players since the 1977–78 NHL season. It is currently held by Florida Panthers center Aleksander Barkov.

Jan 23, 2008 · Selke was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1960. A strong proponent of defensive hockey, the NHL honoured Selke by naming an award after him. The Frank J. Selke Trophy is awarded annually to the best defensive forward in the NHL, as chosen by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
