  4. For buying two bars of chocolate on the black market during the last days of World War II, Pvt. Rudi Kleinschmidt is given the death penalty by Wilhelm Schramm, a fanatical Nazi prosecutor, but an Allied air raid enables Rudi to escape before the sentence can be carried out.

  5. Because he stole two bars of chocolate, the soldier Rudi is sentenced to death by the court-martial judge Dr. Schramm. Rudi manages to escape from the firing squad at the last minute, and since the end of the war has been making a meager living as a street peddler.

Things go rough, but he muddles through selling his wares, until by chance he meets Schramm again (who is now Ober-Prosecutor). His salesman license is confiscated.
