A musical comedy film based on the Spanish zarzuela of the same name, set in 19th-century Madrid. It follows the love story of Julián and Susana, who play with an old pharmacist and his sister, in a fairground atmosphere.

He originally offered it to Chapí, who was unable to set it to music because of a legal wrangle with his publishers.
