Mortal sin, in Roman Catholic theology, the most serious of sins, representing a deliberate turning away from God. A mortal sin is defined as a grave action that is committed in full knowledge of its gravity and with the full consent of the sinner’s will.
It offends God, hinders our ability to receive grace, damages our soul, and wounds our ability to live as a Christian. Mortal sin is that minimum line below which we cannot go. Every act of mortal sin effectively refuses God's offer of grace and life — with such an act, we choose death.
