Exposed to heavy doses of gamma radiation, scientist Bruce Banner transforms into the mean, green rage machine called the Hulk.
Hulk. Bruce Banner. The first (and most famous) person to use the Hulk moniker was Bruce Banner, a scientist who was exposed to extreme amounts of gamma radiation that altered his DNA structure and caused him to become a giant monster of incredible power whenever he gets angry.
As a result, the mild-mannered scientist found that when angered, provoked or excited, his body and brain would transform into a huge, rage-fueled, primitive-minded creature known as the Hulk. For five years, Banner remained on the run from the United States Army.
