Hamam (Italian: Il bagno turco, also known as Steam: The Turkish Bath) is a 1997 Italian-Turkish-Spanish film directed by Ferzan Özpetek about the powerful transformations certain places can cause in people.
When Francesco's long forgotten aunt, Anita, dies in Istanbul, he travels there to look after the sale of the hamam he inherited. There, he meets the family who runs the hamam, gets attracted to one of them and to the whole Turkish atmosphere, and so he decides not to sell the hamam.

Two families from 1843, at the beginning of the creation of the New Greek state, till 1973, are separated and united over the years, passing intrigues, deaths, troubled times, just like the country .
Francesco, a young Italian designer with a rocky marriage, discovers that an aunt has left him property in Istanbul in her will. It turns out to be a Turkish steam bath, and although Francesco at first plans to sell it, the building, the city and a budding sexual attraction soon make him reconsider.
