The band was initially founded as a trio featuring vocalist Ben Weasel (also playing bass at the time), guitarist Jughead, and drummer Steve Cheese. The group first called itself All-Night Garage Sale, but changed their name to Screeching Weasel after bassist Vinnie Bovine joined in December 1986. Bovine would be fired in January 1988.
In 1988, Bovine was fired from the band and was replaced with Warren Fischer, better known as Fish, and former member of the band Ozzfish. The band recorded their second studio album, Boogadaboogadaboogada! , which featured Weasel playing second guitar (he would later state that he only played on about a quarter of the songs) and made a name for themselves by opening a show for Operation Ivy ...

Apr 23, 1999 · Tracks 1-27 comprise the first Screeching Weasel album in its entirety. Recorded on June 13, 1987. This is the first authorized re-release since 1987. The album remained out of print for 10 years, partially because the bassist Vinnie Bovine, who was fired in 1988, allegedly wanted too much money from the band for the right to release it and partially because of Ben's dissatisfaction with the record itself.
Aug 12, 2024 · Drummer Steve Cheese joined, as did Vinnie Bovine after Weasel relinquished his spot as bassist. Underdog Records interest in the Chicago-based foursome culminated in their signing and the release of Screeching Weasel. Bovine was quickly removed from the lineup after the release. Warren Ozzfish joined soon afterword.
