Verden Allen (born Terence Allen, 26 May 1944, Crynant, Neath, Wales) is a Welsh organist and vocalist best known as a founding member of 1970s rock band Mott the Hoople. Before that band formed, he had in the mid-1960s been in a rhythm and blues cover band called The Inmates and recorded with Jimmy Cliff .

Terence Allen was born on May 26, 1944 in South Wales, and moved with his parents to Hereford around 1960. After seeing Pete Watts and Dale Griffin play with The Anchors at the Cabin in 1963, he decided to join a band. Having taken piano lessons as a child, keyboards were the obvious choice.
But, for their Neath-born keyboard player Verden Allen, the hard-fought moment which finally saw them achieve chart success also marked his sudden disappearance from the spotlight.

Verden Allen made his recording debut in 1967 with Jimmy Cliff. He was one of the founding members of Mott The Hoople and stayed with them for the first four albums. He signed a one-off single deal with Polydor in 1973 but subsequent singles were issued on his own label Spinit Records.
