Moritz, Landgrave of Hesse (legally Moritz Friedrich Karl Emanuel Humbert Prinz und Landgraf von Hessen; 6 August 1926 – 23 May 2013) was the son of Prince Philip, Landgrave of Hesse, and the head of the House of Brabant and the German House of Hesse.

Moritz Friedrich Karl Emanuel Humbert, Prince of Hesse-Kassel, was born at the Castle of Racconigi in Italy on August 6, 1926.

Moritz, Landgrave of Hessen-Kassel, German patron of the arts and composer, called Moritz “der Gelehrte” (the learned); b. Kassel, May 25, 1572; d. Eschwege, March 15, 1632. He succeeded his father in 1592, remaining as landgrave until abdicating in favor of his son during the 30 Years’ War in 1627.
May 24, 2013 · The Head of the House of Hesse, Moritz, Landgrave of Hesse, has passed away at the age of eighty-six. The Landgrave passed away in the afternoon of May 23rd, following a long-term lung illness. The news was confirmed by Mark Miller, the Director of the Hessian House Foundation.
