Franz Josias, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (1697-1764) was the fourth son of John Ernest IV, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, the third born by his fathers second wife Charlotte Johanna of Waldeck-Wildungen. He was the great-great-grandfather to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
In 1747 Francis Josias was able to anchor his birthright (primogeniture) in the Line of Succession laws and confer it on his rapidly growing family for the long-term survival of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld.
