The London Government Act 1963 (c. 33) is an act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which created Greater London and a new local government structure within it. The Act significantly reduced the number of local government districts in the area, resulting in local authorities responsible for larger areas and populations.

An Act to make provision with respect to local government and the functions of local authorities in the metropolitan area; to assimilate certain provisions of the Local Government Act 1933 to provisions for corresponding purposes contained in the London Government Act 1939; to make an adjustment of the metropolitan police district; and for connected purposes.
London Government Act 1963. This Act, one of the last of Sir Alec Douglas-Home's Conservative administration, reorganised local government in London. It created (in Part I) the Greater London Council (GLC) and (in Part IV) the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA), both of which were established in April 1964.
94 Short title, commencement and extent. (1) This Act may be cited as the London Government Act 1963. (2) The following provisions of this Act shall not come into force until 1st April 1965, that is to say, Parts II, III, and V to VIII other than sections 17 (6), 48 (2), 62 (4), 66, 69, and 70.
