Lease of Life is a 1954 British drama film made by Ealing Studios and directed by Charles Frend. The film was designed as a star vehicle for Robert Donat in his return to the screen after a three-year absence.
A community-minded film about Robert Donat's character dying too young shot four years before Donat himself died too young was always going to get me. This doesn't hit all the beats you might expect and it's all the better for it – no miracle cures, only sober acceptance: 'we're all dying, my love'.
