Ludgrove, or Ludgrave, or Ludgraves, was an estate and farm in Middlesex between Monken Hadley in the west and Cockfosters in the east in what is now north London. It was centered on Ludgrove Farm (the Blue House) near to Cockfosters.

History. Ludgrove was founded in 1892 by Arthur Dunn in Cockfosters, north London. Dunn was one of life’s natural enthusiasts and his favourite saying, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might” remains the school motto today.
Cockfosters is a suburb of north London to the east of Chipping Barnet, lying partly in the London Borough of Enfield and partly in the London Borough of Barnet. Before 1965, it was in the counties of Middlesex and Hertfordshire .
He played in the England team when they beat Ireland in 1883 and 1884, Wales in 1892, and Scotland in 1893. He was England's captain twice. By the end of the century it was becoming increasingly apparent that amateur teams could no longer win the F.A. Cup and Arthur Dunn proposed a competition for the old boys of public schools.
Ludgrove Hall on a postcard of around 1900. Dunn started teaching as tutor to the Dunville family in Ireland in 1884–85. He was a master at Elstree School, Hertfordshire, from 1885 to 1892. In May 1892 he opened his own preparatory school, Ludgrove, at Ludgrove Hall, Cockfosters, near Barnet where he remained as headmaster until his death.
He was an extremely careful and good batsman, but specially excelled as a wicket keeper, and one of the best known captains in England said: "He is the best wicket keeper I ever saw." After leaving Oxford. where he won for himself many friends, he became a master at Ludgrove.
