The high school scenes showed that, while still friendly, they were drifting apart. She had new friends, a jock boyfriend, she only called him for homework help, she didn't really stick up for him when he was bullied (not to mention kind of gaslighting him by denying the events of the first movie).
The sequel opens where the original ended, with Cole (Judah Lewis), declaring to his parents (Leslie Bibb and Ken Marino) that he doesn’t need a babysitter any longer, indicating that he is finally ready to grow up. But, as it often happens, adulting doesn’t turn out to be what he hoped for.

The Babysitter: Killer Queen. So I just finished watching the sequel to the first movie. Honestly, it rubbed me the wrong way how they completely 180'd Melanie's relationship with Cole. Not to mention the movie was all over the place and certain scenes felt forced.
