Richard, Count of Montfort, Vertus, and Étampes (c. 1396 – 2 June 1438), was a Breton nobleman from the House of Dreux-Montfort. Not much is known of his life, except that he was the father of Francis II, Duke of Brittany. In his lifetime, he held many titles and positions.
Nov 13, 2016 · He died in 1458 and was succeeded by his nephew, Francis, son of his younger brother, Richard, count of Étampes, who had died in 1439. A 4th son, Gilles, died in 1412. Joan and John also had 3 daughters: Marie, countess of Alençon; Blanche, countess of Armagnac and Marguerite, vicomtess de Rohan.

Biography. Son of Richard, Count of Étampes; duke of Brittany 1458-88; m. (1) Marguerite, daughter of Duke François I of Brittany, in 1455; and (2) Marguerite de Foix; he was succeeded at the head of the duchy of Brittany by his daughter by Marguerite de Foix, Anne of Brittany (q.v.).
