The x264 is what’s known as a video codec, a way that the data’s been compressed to make it smaller, it’s based on the H.265 commercial codec used with commercial DVD and Blu-Ray disks.
HOWEVER, if your hardware supports x265 (HEVC) (H265). Most does support it (plex, firefox, k lite, vlc, synoligy nas, etc) I highly recommend downloading those rips. At 1080p or 720p they will be much higher quality at up to half the file size. Specificaly x265 10bit encoding is the best.

I see the word "PROPER" in torrent file names occasionally. For example, RARBG's rips for We Were Soldiers, Alien:Covenant, and Gone Girl all have "PROPER" after the name and release date of the movie. What does this mean?
