    • Cream. Perhaps the greatest supergroup ever — and one of the few that were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — Cream, featuring the Yardbirds' Eric Clapton and the Graham Bond Organisation's Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, released four albums together and produced the hits "Sunshine of Your Love," "Crossroads" and "White Room."

    • Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Neil Young. Yes. All stupendously successful in their own right, CSNY worked like a dream, as, for the first album, the initial three, and then for the second, the four singer-songwriters combined to heavenly effect.
    • Audioslave. Chris Cornell, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk. Sort of. After Zack de la Rocha left Rage Against the Machine in 2000, the remaining three members decided to continue making music together, but as part of a new project, and with a vocalist that sounded nothing like their previous frontman.
