Princess Augusta of Cambridge (born Augusta Caroline Charlotte Elizabeth Mary Sophia Louise Guelph; 19 July 1822 – 5 December 1916) was a member of the British royal family, a granddaughter of George III. She married into the Grand Ducal House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and became Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz .
In Mecklenburg-Strelitz the new Grand Duchess Augusta had the unfortunate coincidence that her birthday coincided with the death in 1810 of her husband’s much loved aunt Queen Luise of Prussia, who was born a member of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
In 1837, they returned to Britain and lived at Cambridge Cottage in Kew and later St. James’s Palace. The miniature was painted by her sister Marie, Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1796-1880). She was the second daughter of Frederick, landgrave of Hesse-Cassel.
