Burgess began climbing in 1964 in the United Kingdom and the European Alps, often with his twin brother, Adrian. After coming to Canada in 1974, Burgess climbed extensively and took part in numerous expeditions in Canada, the European Alps, South America and the Himalayas. Burgess was a member of the 1982 Canadian Mount Everest Expedition.
Burgess was tried before a jury on the charge that he intentionally murdered Louise Crow during a first-degree robbery. Following a guilty verdict, the jury recommended, by an 11-1 vote, that Burgess be sentenced to death by electrocution. On August 24, 1994, the trial court sentenced Willie Burgess, Jr., to death. This appeal follows. We affirm.
