Janusz Józef Muniak (3 June 1941 – 31 January 2016) [1] was a Polish jazz musician, saxophonist, flutist, arranger, and composer. He was one of the pioneers of free jazz in Europe, although later in life tended towards the mainstream. He debuted in Lublin in 1960.

Janusz Muniak. Polish tenor and soprano saxophonist, flutist, arranger and composer. Born: 3 January 1941 in Kraków. Died: 31 January 2016 in Kraków. In 1992 he opened a jazz club called ‘U Muniaka’ on Floriańska Street (Ulica Floriańska) in Kraków. His last album Contemplation was released in November 2015.
