Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon [b] (4 August 1900 – 30 March 2002) was Queen of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from 11 December 1936 to 6 February 1952 as the wife of King George VI. She was also the last Empress of India from 1936 until the British Raj was dissolved in August 1947.

Mar 30, 2002 · The Queen, with the greatest sadness, has asked for the following announcement to be made immediately. Her beloved mother, Queen Elizabeth, died peacefully in her sleep this afternoon, at Royal Lodge, Windsor.
- Born the Hon. Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon. Lady Elizabeth was the ninth child and fourth daughter of Lord Claude George Bowes-Lyon and Lady Nina Cecilia Bowes-Lyon, Lord and Lady Glamis.
- Outbreak of the First World War. The outbreak of the First World War saw Glamis Castle turned into a reception centre and hospital for the wounded. Lady Elizabeth spent the war years helping with the running of the hospital and aiding the welfare and morale of the patients.
