Post-punk musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a broader, more experimental approach that encompassed a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences.

Post punk in my opinion is a style of rock music that takes a lot of the technical simplicity, aesthetics, songwriting structures and catharsis that punk has but takes it in a more introspective, experimental and moodier direction as opposed to punk.
