April Captains ( Portuguese: Capitães de Abril) is a 2000 film telling the story of the Carnation Revolution, the military coup that overthrew the corporatist dictatorship (known as the Estado Novo) in Portugal on 25 April 1974.
On the night of April 24-25, 1974, non-commissioned officers of the Portuguese army began a coup against the Oliveira Salazar dictatorship. Their deed will go down in history as "the Carnation Revolution". The film recreates the story of Captain Salgueiro Maia, one of the heroes of the military uprising.

Synopsis. In Portugal, on the night from 24 to 25 April 1974, the radio played a forbidden song: "Grândola". It could be the insubordination of a journalist but in fact it was the starting signal of a military coup d'état that changed the history of this little country and the destiny of vast territories in Africa.
