30km. Setting: The Oceanview mine is the metonymical name given to the most recent adits and associated underground workings located on the western downhill portion of the unpatented Elizabeth R. lode mining claim, at an elevation of approximately 1287 feet AMSL.
The Elizabeth R mine, located on Chief Mountain in the Ocean View pegmatite, was begun in 1974. The only evidence of work prior to 1974 is an open cut about 50 feet north of the upper north adit. Jahns and Wright report early production as quartz and beryl. Roland Reed of El Cajon purchased the mine and operated it from 1974 into the early 2000s.
