It is based on the book of the same name by Eric Williams, who also wrote the screenplay.   6. Review by williamfaeleith ★★★½. Another old favourite that was on TV today. A typical but superior British WWII escape from a German Prisoner of War camp film. This time cunningly using a wooden vaulting horse so they could start the tunnel closer to the camp boundary.

It was supposed to be portraying events of summer 1943, but the unit was afflicted by atrocious weather, causing delays and budget worries.
