Plot. In 1985, Providence, Rhode Island, 16-year-old high school student Ted Stroehmann is about to go on a prom date with his dream girl, Mary Jensen, when he gets his scrotum stuck in his zipper. He is hospitalized after managing to painfully unzip it, which causes him to miss their date. Ted subsequently loses contact with her.
In 1985, 16-year-old high school student Theodore "Ted" Stroehmann (Ben Stiller) is about to go on a prom date with his dream girl Mary Jensen (Cameron Diaz). Mary was supposed to go with her boyfriend Woogie. ted stands up when a bully manhandles Mary's dumb brother Warren, and Mary befriends him. She asks him to be her date for Prom.
At seventeen, Ted met the girl of every man's dreams, Mary, who asked him to their senior prom. He drives down to Miami from his home to hopefully rekindle a romance. But, as many complications arise, it's clear there's something about Mary.
