These two phrases have a very similar meaning, except for one difference: Both "log in" and "sign in" can be used on a computer or electronic device, but only "sign in" can be used in any circumstance. For example, if I go to a company as a visitor, I will have to sign in, so they know I'm in the building. I can't "log in".
