In 1966, Columbia Pictures released Born Free, the true story of an African game warden and his wife who raised three orphaned lion cubs. Although two were sent to a zoo, the smallest one, Elsa, was raised to maturity by Joy and George Adamson.
At a national park in Kenya, English game warden George Adamson and his wife, Joy Adamson, care for three orphaned lion cubs. After the two larger lions are shipped off to a zoo in the Netherlands, the smallest of the three, Elsa, stays with the couple.
