Located on the shores of the Hudson Bay, the Town of Churchill and the surrounding area are steeped in history as old as Canada. Archaeology in the area shows evidence of human presence dating back 4,000 years to the Pre-Dorset and Dorset people.
Called the polar bear capital of the world, Churchill is also known as a beluga whale watching hotspot, a birder’s paradise, and one of the best places to experience the northern lights. While in Churchill, take in some of its extensive fur trade history with an area tour, adventure kayaking and local fare (Arctic Char is a must!).
Located in the center of Churchill just minutes walk from the museum, restaurants, and the shores of Hudson Bay. Take the whole house or a private space in this 4 bedroom guest house with 2 full bathrooms, kitchen, laundry and lockable bedrooms.
Parks Canada Visitor Reception Centre. The Parks Canada Visitor Reception Centre in the Churchill’s VIA Rail Station houses exhibits about the human and natural history of the area. Audio-visual presentations are also available on the wildlife and history of the Churchill area.
Plaques on the site honour Sir Thomas Button, Samuel Hearne, Matonabee and the Jens Munck Expedition. Located across the Churchill River on the west peninsula, the site is accessed by boat or helicopter with tours dependent on tides and weather.
