  2. Mar 1, 2010 · The trouble is, different names ate used in different areas of the country, so you really need to look up all possible combinations when you are looking for a care home. In our area EMI is used for a separate dementia unit attached to a care home. It's for people with more advanced dementia who have behavioural problems, or other health ...

  3. Apr 14, 2009 · Apr 14, 2009. #5. The difference is in the use of the word “nursing”. There are many residential care homes in England that are registered (with the Care Quality Commiission CQC) as being suitable to receive people with dementia. In other words, they are registered and allowed to accept people with dementia.

  4. Jan 27, 2010 · Jan 27, 2010. #2. EMI stands for “elderly mentally infirm”. A care home which is registered with the Care Quality Commission as an EMI home should be able to meet the needs of dementia sufferers. There are some homes which are just for EMI residents, whereas others take both residents with EMI needs & those with “general old age” needs.

In our case it was the chc funding decision support tool and all the accompanying discussions with the multi disciplinary team, that flagged up that mum should be a a nursing home specifically, her dementia and other ...

  6. Oct 28, 2013 · Derbyshire. Oct 28, 2013. #3. EMI stands for Elderly Mentally Infirm. EMI nursing homes specialize in caring for elderly people who suffer from mental illness, such as Alzhemier’s Disease. I am fairly sure that a home with a dementia unit should be able to help. However it is best to visit them, assess and question them.

  7. Sep 28, 2007 · Between EMI nursing and EMI units (aka residential) yes, but EMI seems to be simply a name. I know the csci site just distinguishes between dementia and non-dementia. From a practical point of view, I suppose EMI will have restricted access, while simply being registered for dementia may not necessarily mean that, but I don't know if there is an "official" definition.

  8. May 23, 2012 · UK. May 23, 2012. #2. Residential home = care home, nursing home = care home + nursing staff to give medication. EMI is usually a nursing home with a secure section for those that usually need medication due to their mental state. In Mum's nursing home they have so many days dementia training every so often and this seems to be given to staff ...

  9. Apr 22, 2018 · May 21, 2014. 12,175. 0. London. Apr 22, 2018. #2. "There are two categories of homes that are specifically registered to care for people with dementia. These are EMI (Elderly Mentally Infirm) homes offering nursing level care and EMD (Elderly Mental Dementia) which offers residential level support." Not very encouraging that no one can tell ...

  10. May 26, 2017 · There is an EMI Nursing Home which accepts challenging bahaviours around 30 minutes from me Nitram(mum lived with me) so distance doesn't really play a part. It boils down to the fact that the social worker doesn't think my mum has any challenging behaviour so sees no need for the CCG to be paying extra for a challenging behaviour home.
