  1. Aug 31, 2006 · Feb 23, 2022. #701. The Lover In Me and What Comes Naturally are two of my favorite Sheena albums, along with A Private Heaven. Of course I wish they would be included in this upcoming campaign for consistency sake, but I ended up grabbing the lame Cherry Red reissue of Lover and the Japanese edition of Naturally in the last year just because I ...

  2. Aug 31, 2006 · My very favourite Easton album is without a doubt the Nile Rogers produced Do You (1985). It's her most consistently compelling non-compilation collection: Don't Turn Your Back, Can't Wait Till Tomorrow, Don't Break My Heart, Money Back Guarantee (my personal favourite) & When Lightning Strikes Again are all great, energetic, stuttery, retro-fied dancefloor showcases of the decade.à ...

  3. Aug 31, 2006 · Feb 16, 2022. #664. The Definitive 12” Singles 1983-1987. Format. 2xLP. Label. CHERRY POP. More Info. • Her first-ever collection of 12” extended mixes - pressed on pink double-vinyl and featuring her 80s US top 10 pop hits ‘Telefone (Long Distance Love Affair)’, ‘Strut’ and ‘Sugar Walls’.

  4. Aug 31, 2006 · If Whitney had sung it, would have been an top 10 hit too am sure. Indeed, Narada Michael Walden produced it and he produced the mega Whitney bops in the '80s so she probably would have made it a major hit. Too bad Sheena's missed the US Top 40. Such a bop, and I love the film from which it comes - About Last Night.

There’s some interesting background info on this album in the Ian Masterson ep of Steve Anderson’s podcast.

  6. Aug 31, 2006 · The same ceremony in 1989 where Sheena performed The Lover In Me to great cheers, was the same ceremony where Whitney was infamously booed and jeered when her name was called out for a award. The following year and her next album, I'm Your Baby Tonight, notably saw a more Urban New Jack Swing sound.

  7. Aug 31, 2006 · I remember even here in Canada, the Cherry Pop reissue of The Lover in Me would just sit in the Sheena slot at HMV. It's just not a very exciting reissue. I guess it was because it came out in the earlier days of Cherry Pop reissues. It really deserves a 2-CD reissue. It was a significant album in her career.

I remember being intrigued by the idea of the album when it was mentioned in Record Collector a few months before it came out. At the time, I don't really recall hearing 'Giving Up Giving In', the lead single or seeing the video.

  9. Aug 31, 2006 · Speaking of Sheena, currently giving her 1987 album, No Sound But A Heart a proper go. Not a bad record overall, a bit too ballady and needs some more uptempos, but quite good. The production and songwriting team, is late 80s finest as well: Prince, Narada Michael Walden, Patrick Leonard, John Bettis, James Ingram, Keith Diamond.

  10. Aug 31, 2006 · Yes, unlike Olivia, the sexier look actually suited Sheena. It must have killed her being forced to wear spangly jumpsuits all those years. Much as Karen Carpenter was one of the biggest victims of 70s 'fashion', Sheena must be at the forefront for the following decade.
