- The Earthshots
The Earthshot Prize is a £1 million annual prize for five winners who contribute to environmentalism in five categories inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It was launched in 2020 by Prince William and David Attenborough and is funded by various donors and partners.
- Protect. and Restore. Nature. By 2030, we choose to ensure that, for the first time in human history, the natural world is growing – not shrinking – on our planet.
- Clean Our. Air. By 2030 we choose to ensure that everyone in the world breathes clean, healthy air – at World Health Organization standard or better. This Earthshot focuses on three main areas of interest
- Revive Our. Oceans. By 2030, we choose to repair and preserve our oceans for future generations. This Earthshot focuses on three main areas of interest: Protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems.
- Build a. Waste-free. World. By 2030, we choose to build a world where nothing goes to waste, where the leftovers of one process become the raw materials of the next – just like they do in nature.
5 days ago · One Earthshot contender, the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, is a group of nearly 120 countries working to protect 30% of the world’s land and oceans by 2030. Other initiatives up for the Earthshot Prize focus on replacing plastics with plant-based materials, turning industrial waste heat into electricity and protecting an 86 million-acre area of the Amazon rainforest.
The Earthshot Prize is a decade-long initiative to find and celebrate solutions to the biggest environmental challenges facing the planet by 2030. Launched by Prince William and The Royal Foundation, the Prize awards £1 million to five winners each year, selected by a global council of experts.
