The Model 12 is the latest addition to Tascam’s compact analogue mixerrange and follows in the footsteps of last year’s Model 20 and Model 16. Designed as a standalone mixer that also works in tandem with your DAW, it combines a mixer, USB interface (12in/10out), DAW controller (HUI/MCU protocol), onboard FX and even 12 track multitrack recorder (u...

The channel configuration is simple but effective with six mono and two stereo channels. However, the stereo channels both accept mono inputs (including mics), and all channel inputs accept instrument-level inputs – both handy and flexible. Also handy is the single-knob compressor with auto gain make up. The three-band channel EQ (high and low shel...

  2. As its delightfully retro appearance implies, it can function as a fairly uncomplicated standalone mixer, with mic/line/instrument inputs, one‑knob compressors, EQ and a couple of aux sends on each channel, a master‑section EQ, and a built‑in 16‑preset digital effects processor.

    • Looks Great. The Model 12’s aesthetic is a welcome departure from the usual sterile look shared by many of today’s analogue (and digital) mixers. The colour-coded pots for each section on the channel strips are both retro and useful, making it easy to identify what pot does what.
    • DAW Controller. Having physical control of the faders, pan and solo/mute controls of your DAW can make mixing a much more enjoyable and immersive experience.
    • Audio Interface. Not only is the Model 12 a great mixer, but it’s also a multitrack audio interface. Up to 6 mono and 2 stereo channels can be recorded straight into your computer/software.
    • Compression and EQ while using it as an interface. Use the onboard one-knob compressor and multiband EQ on the Model 12 while using it as an audio interface.
  3. Nov 18, 2020 · The Tascam Model 24 caught my eye. It's an all in one studio, and can work as an audio interface with a regular DAW, seemingly offering the best of both worlds. The main doubt I have about it would be this: Are the preamp and converters of the unit going to be an insurmountable limitation to achieving pro sound?

  4. The X6 offers 6-inputs and 2-outputs (two built-in condensers, two phantom-powered XLR inputs, and one stereo 3.5mm input with plug-in power), making it quite capable of serving as a miniature portable audio interface, podcasting studio, or all-in-one audio-for-video recorder and microphone.
