Dover (/ ˈ d oʊ v ər / DOH-vər) is a town and major ferry port in Kent, South East England. It faces France across the Strait of Dover, the narrowest part of the English Channel at 33 kilometres (21 mi) from Cap Gris Nez in France. It lies south-east of Canterbury and east of Maidstone.
- White Cliffs. The first sight of England when crossing the Channel, Dover’s White Cliffs rise to 110 metres and continue for eight miles either side of the town.
- Dover Castle. England’s largest castle commands the town and port from Dover’s eastern flank, and has always been trusted as the country’s first line of defence.
