I thought you were referring to The Illusionist from 2010. It's an animated movie directed by Sylvian Chomet that got nominated for an Oscar but lost to Toy Story 3. You should check it out when you have the chance. The Illusionist (2006) was great too (i rate it 8/10), but not as good as The Prestige (2006) (10/10).
