Rotherhithe ( / ˈrɒðərhaɪð / RODH-ər-hydhe) is a district of South London, England, and part of the London Borough of Southwark. It is on a peninsula on the south bank of the Thames, facing Wapping, Shadwell and Limehouse on the north bank, with the Isle of Dogs to the east.
Rotherhithe is a small village in the heart of London. It is spectacularly located along the River Thames, just 15-20 minutes from bustling London Bridge. The area is a bit of a hidden secret and one the locals haven’t been keen on promoting.
- Visit the Mayflower pub. In 1620 history was made in Rotherhithe Village. A ship called The Mayflower set sail from the back of a local historic pub and sailed across the Atlantic.
- Brunel Museum. Isambard Kingdom Brunel is considered by many to have been the greatest engineer who ever lived. He built everything – railways, tunnels, bridges, flat-pack hospitals and ships including the SS Great Britain (the first ship in the world powered by a propeller and now proudly exhibited in Bristol).
- Sands Film. Next to The Brunel Museum on St Marychurch Street is Sands Films. It inhabits a Georgian warehouse originally called Grice’s Granary. Sands Films is unique.
- The Salter statues. Victorian Rotherhithe was the soft underbelly of the great city. Life was a struggle due to poverty and disease. Work was scarce and much of it was dangerous.

Dec 19, 2016 · Even a keen connoisseur of London might not have been to Rotherhithe, a corner of the River Thames which is somehow remote and central all at once. Far from boasting plenty of attractions and things to do, its streets reservedly offer unique gems to the visitor willing to discover.
