  3. Oct 12, 2022 · Surprisingly, the thrill hasn’t dwindled, Australians still flock to rock music concerts. Nowadays, many concerts are organised by young rock musicians and veterans. Some may not be from Australia like Bruce Springsteen, but they perform legendary rock music with a blend of rock, folk, and RnB.

    • AC/DC. We’ll start this list with AC/DC, one of the most famous Australian rock bands ever. For a time, they were one of the most famous rock bands in the world.
    • INXS. Australian bands made serious waves in the 1980s, and INXS was at the forefront. The band was formed in Sydney in 1977 by founding members Garry Gary Beers, Andrew Fariss, Jon Fariss, Tim Fariss, Kirk Pengilly, and Michael Hutchence.
    • Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Out of the wreckage of Nick Cave and Mick Harvey’s former band, the Birthday Party, came Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Blixa Bargeld joined Cave and Harvey, and the band took on a rolling roster of other musicians over the years.
    • Midnight Oil. Sydney band Midnight Oil was formed in 1972 by members Peter Garrett, Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie, and Martin Rotsey. They released their self-titled debut album in 1978 and quickly gained a cult following of fans, but the mainstream wasn’t quite feeling it.
    • The Easybeats. With songs like Friday On My Mind and She’s So Fine, The Easybeats were the greatest Australian rock band of the ’60s. They had in their ranks one of the country’s best ever frontmen in Stevie Wright, while guitarists George Young (older brother of Angus and Malcolm) and Harry Vanda would go on to produce AC/DC, amongst others.
    • AC/DC. The godfathers. Responsible for some of rock’s biggest anthems – Highway To Hell, Jailbreak, Back In Black, etc. – they may have learned their trade in Australia’s pubs, but for the past 30-odd years they’ve ruled stadiums worldwide.
    • Rose Tattoo. “I’m a rock & roll outlaw,” sang pint-sized hardnut Angry Anderson in 1978, and he wasn’t lying. With their tattoos and street-level blues – not to mention the dirty slide guitar work of Pete Wells – Rose Tattoo were the ultimate Aussie bar brawlers.
    • The Angels. Artier than their Seventies pub rock peers, The Angels frontman Doc Neeson incorporated elements such as German expressionism into his stage persona.
