The wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton took place on Friday, 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London, England. William was second in the line of succession to the British throne at the time, later becoming heir apparent. The couple had been in a relationship since 2003.
It’s been ten years since His Royal Highness Prince William married Catherine Middleton at the Abbey on 29th April 2011. Here we look back on a very happy day in the Abbey’s history, and relive the wedding ceremony – a service watched by an estimated billion people around the world.
- The wedding day. On Friday 29 April 2011 at 11 o'clock HRH Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton were married in Westminster Abbey. Ahead of the service, Miss Middleton travelled by car with her father from the Goring Hotel, down The Mall to Parliament Square.
- The engagement. The engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton was announced on 16th November 2010. The couple became engaged the previous month during a private holiday in Kenya.
- The bridal party. Miss Catherine Middleton's sister, Philippa, was chosen to be her Maid of Honour. Prince William asked his brother, Prince Harry, to be his best man.
- The carriage procession. After the service at Westminster Abbey, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled in the 1902 State Landau along the Processional Route to Buckingham Palace.
- DRIVING MISS KATE. En route to Westminster Abbey, the world got their first glimpse of Kate Middleton's Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress, while the Duchess-to-be enjoyed some one-on-one time with her proud father, Michael.
