- Garbage plates. If there’s one food Rochester is famous for, it’s the garbage plate. Although the name might not sound super appetizing, I guarantee this classic Rochester dish tastes way better than it sounds.
- Hots. No garbage plate is complete without hots—the Rochesterian nickname for hot dogs. Rochester is known for being the birthplace of the “white hot,” a unique and delicious take on a hot dog using a combination of beef, pork, and veal.
- Abbott’s Frozen Custard. Perfect for summer days at the lake, Abbott’s Frozen Custard is another famous food from Rochester. As a custard, its consistency is somewhat similar to soft-serve ice cream, but denser and creamier.
