Savernake is a civil parish immediately south and southeast of Marlborough in Wiltshire, England. The settlements in the parish are the hamlets of Cadley, Clench Common and Forest Hill. Savernake Forest covers the eastern half of the parish.
Savernake Forest is the only privately owned forest in England and is among the oldest woodland areas in the country. The forest stretches south from the historic market town of Marlborough, covering some 4500 acres (1821 hectares). Wide avenues run through the forest, connected by wandering trails.
Savernake Forest stands on a Cretaceous chalk plateau between Marlborough and Great Bedwyn in Wiltshire, England. Its area is approximately 4,500 acres (18 km 2; 7.0 sq mi). [1] Most of the forest lies within the civil parish of Savernake.

Savernake Forest, forest of beech covering about 4,000 ac (1,600 ha) on the chalk Downs in the county of Wiltshire, England. From the Norman Conquest (1066) until 1550 it was a major British royal hunting ground. In 1939 the woodland was leased to the state Forestry Commission.

Savernake. A wonderful very large ancient forest run by the Forestry Commission. Made up of several woodlands, the main being an SSSI predominantly of oak. Excellent for wildlife all year round. Picnic sites at Postern Hill on the south west side along the A346.
