Valladolid is a municipality, the basic local administrative division in Spain. The Ayuntamiento de Valladolid is the body charged with the municipal government and administration. Valladolid began to gain importance in the 11th century when Count Ansúrez became the governor of the town in the name of Alfonso VI.
