The Hard Target is a rare ballistic sniper rifle you can find by defeating high-level Pirate and Spacer enemies, such as Pirate Corsairs, Spacer Vultures, and Spacer Predators. These foes are typically encountered at quest destinations, aboard enemy Starships and Spacestations, and in the randomly spawned structures on the surface of planets and moons, usually in star systems that are level thirty and higher.
You can also find the Hard Target by searching greenish-yellow wall and floor Safes, which have a rare chance to drop this weapon. Typically, you'll see these Safes at points of interest and quest destinations near industrial, science, and military storage areas, computer stations, living quarters, offices, labs, and supply rooms, often around tables and shelves. Generally, Safes are locked or found behind locked doors, and you'll need to use the Security Skill to Lockpick them open with Digipicks.
After reaching level 32 or higher, the Hard Target unlocks at many shops and can be purchased with credits for 20510 or less from the Trade Authority and many other weapon vendors in New Atlantis, Cydonia, Neon, and Akila City. To find the higher-damage Calibrated, Refined, and Advanced Hard Target in stock at shops, you'll need to reach levels 42, 52, and 62 to unlock each tier.

•You can improve your chances of finding the Hard Target sniper rifle by leveling up and exploring enemy-filled quest destinations and points of interest in higher-level Star Systems. Generally, the higher your level and Star System level, the better the odds of finding the Hard Target.
•When searching for enemies that can drop the Hard Target, such as Pirate Corsairs, Spacer Vultures, and Spacer Predators, be sure to check the Mission Boards for Bounty Quests that may lead you directly to these foes and their Starships.
•You can pick up Bounty Quests from the Mission Boards in New Atlantis, Cydonia, and Akila City, or you can build your own Mission Board at your Outposts.
•If you're level 32 or higher and don't see the Hard Target in stock at shops where it can appear, try refreshing the vendor's inventory by using the Wait option at a chair or bench for 48 hours local time. With some luck, you'll eventually see the Hard Target appear in stock.
