Jun 30, 2005 · A love story about a young man who runs away up an isolated Australian river and gets a job with eighth generation oyster famers.
Jack Flange leaves the big city for a respite in Australia's Hawkesbury River region, where generations of oyster fishermen (and maybe one woman) have made a living, built histories, and piled up grievances. Jack finds a small-town mentality, with pluses and minuses.
Writer-director Anna Reeves' Oyster Farmer shapes up as a realistic drama about life among freshwater oyster farmers, a rough group of very likeable people. The film has a pleasing, low-tension attitude about life rare for a post-millennium drama.
